The Constructing America trip to Washington D.C. has been running smoothly for ten years now, and Riverdale has gotten it down to a science. As a result, not much will be changing for this year’s junior class. However, there will be a few minor tweaks, as factors out of the school’s control require minor adjustments, and lessons from previous trips suggest slight improvements.

The Young Entrepreneurship Speaker Series, started this year by sophomores Alexis Geller and Russell Rosenthal, provides an opportunity for members of the Riverdale community to explore the work of entrepreneurs who change the world for good. “We found it really important to go down the entrepreneur track,” explained Geller about the start of the series. She continued, “In this crazy, always-changing world, it's really great to be able to create your own path as an entrepreneur and to bring people in to show others about that.”

As Riverdale students, we are constantly glancing at the time as we rush between classes, staring at the clock during particularly long periods, or savoring the time that we have left as we scramble to finish assessments. Most of us, however, do not recognize that behind every tick of a timekeeping device is an extensive art and science, the study of which is known as horology. 

In honor of Veteran’s Day this year, Riverdale invited Steve Martin, a former US Army corporal and Arizona National Guard veteran who served in Afghanistan, to speak in an assembly about his challenges and resilience as a double-amputee.

November 19, 2019 held a special promise for the Riverdale community: a day off classes. However, One World Day proved to be so much more. On this day, high schoolers listened to poetry, wrote stories, attended workshops, participated in improv, and even indulged in a donut wall and a chocolate fountain, all with the goal of coming together as a community to explore storytelling.

On September 26th, Riverdale welcomed Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi to an assembly where he discussed his advocacy against child labor.

Many students have seen signs and emails advertising groups that meet in the “Egg” and have walked by the transparent space to see faculty holding meetings there. However, many students wonder what this room actually is, what it is used for, and how it got its unique nickname.
